Dropshipping Marketing Strategy and Brand Positioning
Marketing angles and brand positioning are crucial parts of becoming successful dropshipping. Throughout this post I’ll be using the example of leggings, one of the most generic and widely sold products, to demonstrate the difference between good and bad marketing strategies and positioning. Two companies may sell the same product, but if one of them creates a unique marketing angle alongside a trustworthy brand they will outsell the other company 10x.
So, how can I create a marketing strategy and position my brand ahead of the competition?
Marketing Angles (Product Based)
How you position your product, offer, and sales points to your target audience.
You should position your product so that it’s completely unique and stands out from the crowd. Leggings are most often sold for what they are, leggings. Most companies don’t create a unique angle that draws customers to their leggings over other brands. Unsuccessful dropshippers sell leggings with pictures of people wearing them. It’s not unique or exciting. Their sales points look something like these:
- Want to see some great leggings?
- Checkout these leggings they’re great!
- Perfect Fit and Amazing Design
- They will look great on you!
- Get 10% OFF and Buy Now
Excited yet? Ready to give your money to these companies and buy their “great” leggings? Absolutely not.
So, how do you stand out from the crowd?
Choosing the right marketing angles requires understanding your customers’ deepest wants and desires. Conduct customer research by reading through reviews of your product. If competitors are running ads, what types of comments are customers leaving under the description? To be successful it’s imperative you learn what drives your customer to purchase your product.
A better marketing angle for leggings would be “our push up leggings shape your butt to perfection.” See how this angle hits the customers’ pain point? Most girls want their butts to look good while wearing leggings, so emphasizing this in your marketing angle allows you to stand out from the crowd.
Check out these winning sales points and compare them to the weak ones from before:

Now these are winning sales points! These will get customers excited about checking out your leggings and handing over their wallets! This is how you start to create a successful dropshipping marketing strategy.
Paired with these compelling sales points should also be a unique and effective ad creative.
What’s an ad creative?
It’s the product video or images you choose to run ads and promote your product.
I highly recommend using https://viralecomvidz.com/ to make all of your product videos. They find the highest quality clips of your product and use any script that you provide to sell your video. Use the sales points and offer above inside of your video and you’ll have a winning ad creative.
Another great idea for a creative to stand out from the crowd is using a testimonial. Hire someone, or records yourself, talking about the product and all of its features. Hit on the sales points and the needs of customers that it helps solve. Testimonials are more trustworthy and there’s not enough of them being used in the market. Testimonials also are great to position your brand ahead of the competition…
Brand Positioning (Company Based)
How you position your brand to be attractive, easily understood, aligned with your product and offer.
If you’re creating a branded niche or single product store, your brand positioning and marketing angles are very similar and work together.
From the very instant you choose a product to sell market it using your brand. Create a website name, social media pages, and email address that all include your brand’s name. Create a logo that represents that matches the type of niche your store is in. For a brand selling leggings, I would look to the major sellers like Lululemon and design my website and logo after them. Imitating what works will increase the conversion rate of your store as customers begin to trust your brand.
Include your logo in your ad creatives to market your brand. If applicable, use social media influencers to sell your product and have them give testimonials about your brand. Create engagement ads for your brand on Facebook to get yourself in front of as many people as possible and start to build a presence.
Implementing all of these strategies will no doubt position your brand to be trustworthy and a leader in the niche you choose
Marketing and Brand Positioning Are Key
Not enough people focus on marketing or their brand when dropshipping, instead they look for the quick and easy way to make a quick buck with little effort. Or, they simply don’t understand how to run a proper business. Because that’s what dropshipping is, a business.
The more you treat your dropshipping store like a business, and the more you replicate what major brands are doing, the more success you will have. Focus on your dropshipping marketing strategy and brand positioning to watch your sales soar!
